Long Acting Injectables

ADMINISTERING LONG-ACTING INJECTABLES

• For mental health and substance use disorders
• Must be administered into the deltoid muscle
• Requires patient-specific prescription
• Pharmacist must confirm initial dose was given by prescriber
• Consent and documentation required
• Notify prescriber within 5 days of administration
• If patient misses a scheduled dose, the prescriber must be notified within 72 hours
• Any adverse reactions must be reported to the prescriber immediately
• Certified pharmacy interns may administer under immediate, personal supervision of a certified pharmacist
• Patient consent is required for intern administration; if declined, a certified pharmacist must administer the dose
• Pharmacists may administer emergency treatment for anaphylaxis
• Pharmacists may refuse to administer if they believe it poses a health risk due to adverse effects or interactions
